STORIES & INSIGHTSSEPTEMBER 22, 2022

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon & Nicole White . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brandon & Nicole, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

About 3 months after we decided to look for potential buildings for our first event space, Covid hit. It was March 2020 and we didn’t know what to do. Covid was new and scary. The unknown had us worried that opening something that required people to have gatherings was no longer a good idea. However, we pressed on and had faith that it would work itself out. And like all things, it did. We opened in October of 2020 and became so busy that we needed to open a second location, which opened in November of 2021. Our customers truly held us down and word of mouth keep our doors open!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We are Brandon and Nicole White, the owners of BienVenue Events. We are both Army Veterans and have traveled and lived all over, but decided to settle down in Houston with our four children several years ago. When we’re not busy with running our business and working full-time, we enjoy watching our kids play in their numerous sports at the local high school and spending time with our family and friends.

Our journey into entrepreneurship started with several years of reading, learning and dreaming before diving into the event venue space. In early 2020, we decided to take a leap of faith after much consideration before we were met with our first challenge, the pandemic. Despite the uncharted territory, we decided to continue our venture and we’re so glad we did. BienVenue Events officially opened in October 2020 and we haven’t looked back since. Our second venue opened in November 2021. It’s nestled inside of an old 1920’s mansion in East Downtown Houston. The love and support from our community has been tremendous and we are eternally gratefully.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Brandon and I met at a water park one summer night back in 2011. I was out celebrating my birthday with a few friends and he was out with a group of guys, also celebrating a birthday. I remember seeing him in line as we were walking in, taking note that I thought he was handsome. “Somehow” our two groups ended up next to each other and we spent the evening laughing and going down water slides together. However, Brandon was the only one in the group not talking to me much. I remember taking a seat next to him as he was sitting by the pool, talking to his friends. As if it were planned, the DJ started playing Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” and we sang and swayed together., which helped get conversations started. Needless to say, I left that night with his phone number and we had our first date 2 days later.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

First, there is not really another event venue in our area. So there was most definitely a need. Having great customer service is important to us as it leaves an impression on customers. Obviously, we can’t make everyone happy but we try our best to make up for situations that might be out of our control. We think that word of mouth has been the absolute best source of marketing for us. We have a business that brings in up to 100 people per event. That’s up to a few hundred sets of eyes per weekend that can see what it is that we offer and become potential future clients.
